What you will need: 

  1. U.S. Passport – You must provide your signed passport.  Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months and have a blank page available.
  2. Afghanistan Visa Application Form – Please provide a completed visa application form; click here for a .pdf of the application.  Because the application changes on occasion, we’ve also provided a link to the Afghanistan Embassy website so you may get the most recent version directly from the Embassy website.  The application form must be filled out completely and have answers for all fields.  It must display your full name as appears in your passport, and it must be signed and notarized.
  3. Washington Express Visas Visa Request Form – filled out completely.
  4. Photograph – Please provide one color, passport size photo.  The photograph must be printed on photo paper, it must be 2″ by 2″ and have a white background, and it must have been taken in the last 6 months.
  5. Letter addressed to the Embassy of Afghanistan stating the purpose of your visit, details of your intended activities, accommodation information, contact information,  and your dates of travel.
  6. A copy of your airline ticket or travel agent itinerary.

A business letter of introduction from your company (on company letterhead) addressed to the Embassy of Afghanistan stating the purpose of travel, the name and contact of the company in Afghanistan you’re visiting, and a financial guarantee for all of your expenses.  Click here to see a sample business letter.
  6. A copy of your airline ticket or travel agent itinerary.

Afghanistan Consular Fees:

  • Single Entry Visa (3 months) – $160
  • Work/NGO Visa (1 year) – $360

Vaccination against Yellow Fever required if arriving within 6 days after leaving or transiting countries with infected areas.

Exempt from Yellow Fever vaccination:

  • Those not leaving the airport in the Yellow Fever infected countries.
  • Transit passengers not leaving the airport in Afghanistan.

Recommended:

  • Malaria prophylaxis. Malaria risk – P. vivax and P. falciparum – exists from May through November below 2000 meters. P. falciparum resistant to chloroquine and sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine reported. Recommended prevention:IV.

Vaccinations:

Certain countries may require vaccinations if your prior point of departure is from a country that is deemed a health risk.  You can go to https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/page/travel-vaccines for current health requirements for each segment of your travel.

  • Visa is not required for those, irrespective of nationality, who are born:
    – in Afghanistan;
    – to parents who are nationals of Afghanistan;
    – to parents who are born in Afghanistan but are not
    nationals of Afghanistan.
  • Visitors must hold return or onward tickets and all documents required for their next destination and sufficient funds for their maintenance.

  • All foreign visitors are strongly recommended to register with the local Afghan Police Department, Afghan Tourist Bureau (tourists only) and their embassy in Kabul.
